Older and Wider
I was full of myself when younger
My spending of youth's precious hoard
Was driven by creative hunger
I was lean, sharp, and never once bored.
They say that when you are older
Having drunk deep of youth's potent brew
That although youth's fire grows colder
You can still to your young self be true.
But I have grown cynic and snider
My leaness, my sharpness, my deeds,
Are lost. I'm just older and wider
A middle-aged fool, swamped by greed.
